As impressive as the original, both in design and the materials used. The new ship has been built based on a drawing by a pirate that sailed in her. She was built and anchored in the very place from which the original ship first set sail in 1669; a location close to Morgan´s favourite Roatan Island, which so often offered him safe haven from his pursuers. The Black Pearl was the pride of Morgan´s fleet, the boat that witnessed his actions as a pirate, his battles under the British crown and the invasion of Panama in 1671. It was the flagship of a man who, though once a slave, won the respect of all the captains of the Caribbean, of generals and common soldiers alike. The man who built his own republic of sea robbers and went on to become a noble and a governor of Jamaica. The current Black Pearl's construction took place between 2005 and 2007 and lasted 10 months less than Henry Morgan once needed. It boasts many original features, such as 6 bronze functional cannons, hand-made ropes and canvas, a metal-tipped anchor, sheathing impregnated by hot blood from oxen. Designed with tourism in mind, the Black Pearl offers comfortable living quarters for 8 crew with an additional private cabin, will hold 70 tourists, boasts 2 luxury cabins, 2 smaller cabins, a well-equipped kitchen and 2 public lavatories; all the mod cons that would undoubtably been lacking on the original! 27m long and 7m wide, it has 5 large canvas sails, 25m and 18m masts, 3 decks and the hold. It is fitted with a Liaz 6 cylinder diesel engine and the TATRA gearbox. There is a 10.000 litre water storage tank under the deck. A true new pearl of the Caribbean!
