Description
This unique Manor House was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. Originally an oak timber framed residence, it stood long into the 20th Century as a fine example of English Heritage. There is a rich history of characters who owned and lived at the Manor, back to the times of the Norman Conquest. A tapestry of ownership closely linked to, and involved in, Royalty, Politics and High Society spreads over the generations. The Manor House was remodelled in stone in 1640 and lorded over the fertile Yorkshire farmland until it was sadly dismantled in 1969 to make way for a golf course. It know resides in the Republic Of Ireland awaiting the opportunity to rise again. The glorious sandstone has been painstakingly cleaned, sized and stacked on pallets, along with the stone mullioned window frames, door lintels and yards of beautiful granite cobble stones from the courtyard. From these you could build and create an individual home oozing with charm and character and steeped in a history unrivaled in the states. I came accross the stone purely by chance approximately 10 years ago. I was helping an elderly reclusive gentleman clear his yard of vintage farm machinery. Making conversation, I enquired about some oak timbers I could see. He slowly explained about them and the story of the manor house -(and its 30 year hibernation) came back to life. I was lucky to purchase the stone, and 7 semi trailer-loads later, I shipped it all to Ireland when I moved here from Yorkshire. However, I feel the house deserves a more fitting location. I am involved in the transport and shipping industry so could assist with the logistic issues of the sale. Shipping costs, taxes and duties will be the responsibility of the buyer. Unfortunately as I was not present at demolition, I cannot guarantee that every piece of stone is there to complete the jigsaw.  I will attempt to answer any question  you may have prior to bidding. The stone can be viewed at any time if so required. So to reiterate, you would be buying the total amount of sandstone and granite that I have and also the chronology of ownership involving many hours of painstaking and careful research. The photographs of the Manor House were taken in the 1960s and found in the Local History Archives. The photographs of the stone are current, more are available on request . I have this exciting opportunity advertised elsewhere so reserve the right to end the auction early if so required. This amazing opportunity may never arise again so take advantage now. Thank you for looking. Following some questions regarding the authenticity of this auction, I want to reassure bidders that the remains of this magnificent house sit dismantled in the Republic Of Ireland. They can be viewed at any time. County Clare is renowned for its world-class golf courses, beaches and boutique towns. Shannon International Airport is a short drive away and I can assist with accomodation should you wish to view. The full history will be divulged to the sucessful bidder and can be verified by local archive research and historians in Yorkshire. Should you require any further information to enable you to undertake your own research please feel free to ask.
