DescriptionProperty History:This Highway General Store is located on the corner or intersection of two state highways only 20 miles from Ocean City.The Deer Branch Store has been said to be the oldest general store in Wicomico County. It has been written about in Delmarva's (Delaware/Maryland/Virginia) largest newspaper, and it is famous amoungst Powellville's residents. It is older than all the current residents and has undergone a few transformations in function. It started out as an old school house. On the second floor of the store, there are still some old desks and school books lying around. Then it became the home of the Junior Order of American Mechanics,finally, it became the Deer Branch General Store and has been so for many years and on the first floor there are still a couple of large scales designed to weigh large masses and an old HENI soda cooler where cold bottles of pop were stored. Location, Location!The real value of this place is in the real estate and its proximity to Ocean City. First of all, it is on the corner of Powellville's only intersection. It is 3 miles south of Route 50 between Salisbury and Ocean City. Salisbury and Ocean City have both grown immensely and the sprawl of the Maryland eastern shore has just about made both cities merge and this corner lot and store is located right in the middle. Key: 1 = shop location , 2 = Ocean City Purpose of SaleIn late 2007 this property was purchased with the intention of fully restoring it and setting it up as an antique store. However, the owner fell ill and has had to move 12 hours away for surgical treatment. There is still another 15 months of rehabilitation before treatment is completed. Consequently, this wonderful project has not been started.This property was purchased knowing that it is a diamond in the rough. The owner fell in love with it  as a result of its closeness to the ocean and its future economic potential as the eastern shore evolves. This metal roof is about 20 years old and should be replaced if you want to open this as a weekend antique store. There is no plumbing nor water works in the store. There are several local companies that will do a full installation at a reasonable price.Birds Gone Wild!!The birds seem to have taken over the store, there is literally tons of bird poop plastered on everything upstairs. This can be remedied easily - The wood work in the building can withstand a good power washing & an open air drying now that it is summer without any major problems. The building has been invaded by greenery.
